HOUSTON (May 30, 2007)— If you have been dreading summer golf in 90-plus heat, there will be a new way to cool off between holes at three semi-private courses:

Houston National, Lake Windcrest, and Magnolia Creek Golf Links. William Cole Inc., Houston-based golf management company, has added Coolwell air conditioners to 20 golf carts at each course.

“In this competitive golf market, we are looking for opportunities to enhance the golfer’s experience,” said Spencer Clements, CEO of William Cole Inc. “If carts with these new personal climate control systems make the golfer or group planner choose one of our courses, we’ve made the right call,” Clements added. Rental cost to golfers is $5 per seat .

Two years ago William Cole Inc. added a fleet of UpLink golf carts with GPS systems to Houston National Golf Club which have proven popular with golfers and a real draw at golf tournaments with live tourney scoring, according to Jeff Sheehan, general manager of HNG.

Rich Carter, vice president of sales and marketing at Coolwell Inc., said the William Cole-managed courses are the first to use the G2 patented technology in the Houston area. “In an ideal golf world, it would be 70 degrees all the time, but the Coolwell G2s simulate that experience, keeping golfers cool, dry and comfortable—even in the most unbearable heat.” The Coolwell G2 also is equipped with a sanitary beverage storage compartment, which uses the adjacent ice’s cooling power to keep drinks cold.

“Unlike an evaporative cooler or misting system, the G2 is a true air-conditioner that strips heat and moisture from the air and directs cool, dry air to the back of each golfer’s neck,” Carter said.

Each golf cart comes with two units—one for each golfer. The system also is pressure-activated through the cart’s seat to prevent running the system when the cart is vacant. The Coolwell G2 uses just a small fraction of available golf-cart power and requires about 13 pounds of ice for a typical 18-hole round played in severe heat.

William Cole’s decision to equip a portion of its fleets with Coolwell units was motivated by wanting to offer a more comfortable, pleasurable round than any other courses in the area.

In cold weather, the G2 easily converts to a heater, producing heat at up to 110 degrees above ambient temperature and designed to warm those areas of the body that are the most exposed when playing golf in the winter.
